🚨 Alert (LEVEL 9)
School Board Voting on Debt Tax Rate Hike
📅 Thursday, August 27, 2026
The Sulphur Bluff ISD board is scheduled to vote on its new property tax rate. One item on the agenda explicitly states they will consider adopting a tax rate for debt (the Interest & Sinking rate) that “Exceeds the Rate Determined to Maintain a Minimum Payment.” This bureaucratic language means the board is planning to tax residents more than the minimum required to cover their debt payments, directly increasing the tax burden on property owners.
Response

PACK THE ROOM: This is the official public hearing on your tax rate. Show up on August 27th at 6:00 PM to speak during the Public Meeting (Item III). Ask the board to explain exactly why they need to set the debt tax rate higher than the minimum required and to state the impact on the average homeowner’s tax bill. Demand they adopt the no-new-revenue rate.

💰 Impact: A higher property tax bill to pay down debt faster or build a surplus using taxpayer money.
