Voting on Your Tax Bill With No Numbers Published
The school board is scheduled to hold a public hearing and then vote to approve the 2026-2027 property tax rate. However, the agenda fails to disclose the proposed rate, the no-new-revenue rate, or the voter-approval rate. This prevents taxpayers from knowing if their tax bills are set to increase and makes it impossible to provide informed comment before the final vote.
Response
PACK THE ROOM: Attend the public hearing at 7:30 AM. During public comment, demand the board announce the no-new-revenue rate and the proposed rate before any vote. Email the Board of Trustees via the district website: ‘Do not vote on Item 8.C until the proposed tax rate is published and compared against the no-new-revenue rate. We demand transparency on our tax bills.’
π° Impact: A potential property tax increase passed without residents knowing the key figures needed to hold the board accountable.

Approving a Secret Budget
The board plans to approve the entire 2026-2027 district budget, but the budget document itself is not attached to the public agenda. Taxpayers have no way to see how their money is being spent on salaries, contracts, or new programs before the board votes to lock it in for the year. This is a major transparency failure.
Response
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email the Board of Trustees via the district website: ‘Postpone the vote on Item 8.B. The public has a right to review the full budget document before you approve it. Voting on a secret budget is unacceptable.’
π° Impact: The entire district budget is being approved without public review, potentially hiding wasteful spending, administrative bloat, or ideological programs.

Hiding Money to Justify Higher Taxes
Under Item 8.A, the board is voting on a ‘Resolution Committing Fund Balance.’ This is an accounting maneuver that can lock away taxpayer money into specific funds, making it unavailable for general use or tax relief. This can be used to make the district’s financial position look weaker than it is, creating a justification for future tax increases.
Response
DEMAND THE DETAILS: Email the Board of Trustees via the district website: ‘Regarding Item 8.A, what is the specific purpose and amount of the fund balance being committed? Why can’t these funds be used for tax relief? Please provide the full resolution text before the vote.’
π° Impact: Earmarking reserve funds, which could otherwise be used to lower property tax rates for homeowners.
