WARNING (LEVEL 7)
District to Adopt Policy Packet from Austin Lobby Group
📅 October 6, 2026
The board is scheduled for a final vote on ‘Update 127,’ a large package of policy changes written by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). This continues the district’s reliance on an Austin-based lobbying firm for policy guidance, a group that often works against taxpayer interests at the state level. The board should set its own policy through a local, transparent process, not rubber-stamp packets from external organizations.
Response

DEMAND A RECORDED VOTE: Contact the McAllen ISD Board of Trustees (see district website for contact info). Ask them: ‘Regarding Item 8.B)2, please pull the TASB Localized Policy Manual Update 127 for individual review and separate votes, rather than adopting the entire packet at once. Our board should be the primary author of local policy, not an Austin lobby group.’
