Tax Rate ‘Cut’ Hides $254 Property Tax Hike

The school board is scheduled to adopt its new property tax rate. While the proposed rate of $0.9134 is lower than last year’s $0.9403, this is not a tax cut. Due to a sharp increase in property appraisals, the tax bill on the median-valued home will jump from $2,492 to $2,746 — a $254 increase, or more than 10%. The district is collecting more money from taxpayers while claiming to have ‘cut’ the rate.

PACK THE ROOM: The board is voting on a tax hike disguised as a rate cut. Sign up for public comment at the August 27th meeting. Contact the Maypearl ISD board members and demand they adopt the ‘No-New-Revenue’ tax rate to provide genuine relief from soaring property values.
