Board Adopts Policy from Anti-Taxpayer Lobby Group

In the minutes from the August 26 meeting, the Board unanimously approved “TASB policy update 127.” The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) is a taxpayer-funded organization that actively lobbies the state legislature for higher taxes and against policies that increase parental rights and transparency. Adopting their pre-packaged policies cedes local control to an Austin-based lobby group.

Response

Use the Public Comment period (Item IV) at the September 23 meeting to ask the Board why it is adopting policies from TASB, an organization that lobbies against local taxpayer interests. Demand the Board review its relationship with TASB and commit to developing future policies locally.
