Heads up, taxpayers and parents: We’ve audited the upcoming INGLESIDE ISD agenda. There are 2 items targeting parental consent and taxpayer funds that need your immediate attention before the gavel falls.
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 8)
Public Hearing on Proposed Tax Increase
📅 August 26, 2026
The school board is holding a public hearing and then immediately voting on the budget and property tax rate for the upcoming year. The agenda includes language about adopting a debt service (I&S) tax rate “above the minimum,” signaling they may be collecting more than is strictly necessary to pay this year’s debt bills. With rising property values, this proposed rate will likely result in a higher tax bill for homeowners, even if the rate itself is framed as a “cut.”
Response

ATTEND THE PUBLIC HEARING: This is the only chance to speak before the board votes on your tax bill. Show up on August 26th at 6:00 PM. Ask the board: ‘What is the no-new-revenue tax rate, and how does your proposed rate compare? Why are you considering a debt service rate above the minimum required?’ Demand they adopt the no-new-revenue rate to protect homeowners from rising appraisals.

💰 Impact: A higher property tax bill due to a tax levy increase, even if the rate stays the same or slightly decreases.
ALERT (LEVEL 4)
New Maritime Academy Grant
📅 August 26, 2026
The district is considering a grant from the Port of Corpus Christi to create a Maritime Academy. While this could be a positive workforce development program, grants often create new programs that taxpayers are expected to fund once the initial grant money runs out.
Response

DEMAND THE DETAILS: Before the vote on Item 5.G, ask the board: ‘What are the total ongoing costs for staffing and maintaining the Maritime Academy after this grant money is spent? Will local taxpayers be responsible for funding this program in the future?’ Taxpayers should know the full cost before a new program is created.

💰 Impact: Potential future funding obligations for staffing and maintenance after the grant expires.
