Heads up, taxpayers and parents: We’ve audited the upcoming HARTS BLUFF ISD agenda. There are 2 items targeting parental consent and taxpayer funds that need your immediate attention before the gavel falls.
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 8)
Final Vote on Your Property Tax Bill
📅 August 27, 2026
The board is scheduled to hold a public hearing and then cast the final vote on the 2026-2027 budget and property tax rate. This single vote determines the size of the school tax bill for every property owner in the district. Taxpayers should be present to see if the board is adopting a rate higher than the ‘no-new-revenue’ rate, which constitutes a tax increase even if the rate itself is framed as a ‘cut’.
Response

SHOW UP AND SPEAK UP: The public hearing is Item 3, and the final vote is Item 6.D. Attend the meeting and demand the board adopt the ‘no-new-revenue’ tax rate. Contact the district office to find board member emails and urge them to vote NO on any tax rate above the no-new-revenue rate.

💰 Impact: Potential property tax increase.
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 7)
Using Your Tax Dollars to Lobby Against You
📅 August 27, 2026
The board is voting to adopt policy updates from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and appoint a voting delegate to the TASA/TASB convention. These actions commit local tax dollars to fund one of the most powerful education lobbying groups in Austin. This lobby frequently works against taxpayer interests like property tax relief, spending limits, and school choice.
Response

DEMAND A RECORDED VOTE: Contact the school board and ask them to pull items 6.F and 6.H for a separate discussion and a recorded vote. Ask them: ‘How much in local tax dollars do we send to TASA and TASB each year? Why are we funding a lobby that works against property tax relief for Harts Bluff families?’

💰 Impact: Annual membership dues to TASA/TASB and travel expenses for the convention delegate.
