Heads up, taxpayers and parents: We’ve audited the upcoming HAMILTON ISD agenda. There are 3 items targeting parental consent and taxpayer funds that need your immediate attention before the gavel falls.
| 🚨 Alert (LEVEL 9) |
|
Tax Increase Hidden by Misleading Numbers
The board is voting on a tax rate of $0.9668. While this is the same rate as last year, rising property values mean most homeowners will see a significant tax increase. The district’s official “Taxpayer Impact Statement” is misleading, as it calculates the new tax bill using a much lower, incorrect proposed rate of $0.9285, hiding the true size of the tax hike from the public.
Response
PACK THE ROOM: This is the vote that raises your property taxes. Sign up for public comment during the hearing on Item 6. Contact the Hamilton ISD board (check district website for emails) and tell them: ‘The Taxpayer Impact Statement is wrong and misleading. Vote NO on the proposed $0.9668 tax rate (Item 10) and adopt a true no-new-revenue rate that doesn’t raise our tax bills.’
💰 Impact: A property tax levy increase that is larger than officially disclosed.

Board to Over-Tax Homeowners for Debt Payments
The board plans to set the debt service tax rate (I&S) at $0.2250, which is 24% higher than the $0.1808 rate required to make this year’s payments. The district admits this is an over-collection, justified as a buffer against “potential” future problems. This means taxpayers are being intentionally over-taxed to build a slush fund for the district’s debt.
Response
DEMAND A RECORDED VOTE: Contact the Hamilton ISD board (check district website for emails) and tell them: ‘On Item 9, I demand a roll-call vote. Do not over-tax residents for debt service. Adopt the minimum required I&S rate of $0.1808 and leave the extra money in taxpayers’ pockets, not in a district bank account.’
💰 Impact: A 24% over-collection on the debt portion of your tax bill.

Sending Tax Dollars to Austin Lobbyists
The board is set to approve a $30,096 payment to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) for an insurance policy. While the district needs insurance, TASB is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Austin, frequently opposing property tax relief, school choice, and other conservative reforms. This payment uses local tax dollars to indirectly fund their lobbying operations.
Response
DEMAND THE DETAILS: Contact the Hamilton ISD board (check district website for emails) and ask: ‘Regarding Item 12, was this insurance policy competitively bid? Please provide quotes from non-lobbying entities. Tax dollars should not be used to fund TASB’s political agenda in Austin.’
💰 Impact: $30,096 to an entity that lobbies against taxpayer interests.
