Heads up, taxpayers and parents: We’ve audited the upcoming GREENWOOD ISD agenda. There are 2 items targeting parental consent and taxpayer funds that need your immediate attention before the gavel falls.

Property Tax Rate Vote
The board is scheduled to hold a public hearing and then vote to adopt the property tax rate for the 2026-2027 year. Due to rising property appraisals, many districts can lower the tax *rate* but still collect significantly more tax *dollars* from homeowners. The key figure for taxpayers is the ‘no-new-revenue rate’ — the rate that would collect the same amount of money as last year. Any rate adopted above that is a tax increase, regardless of how it’s framed.
Response
ATTEND THE PUBLIC HEARING: The hearing is scheduled for the beginning of the 5:30 PM meeting. Sign up to speak and ask the board: ‘Is the proposed tax rate higher than the no-new-revenue rate? If so, why are you voting to increase the tax burden on Greenwood families?’ Demand a recorded, roll-call vote on Item 8.
💰 Impact: Potential tax levy increase if the adopted rate exceeds the no-new-revenue rate.

School Board Election Canceled
The district is moving to cancel the upcoming Board of Trustees election because all candidates are running unopposed. While canceling an uncontested election saves taxpayer money, it also means voters have no choice in their representation. A lack of competitive elections can lead to a board that is less accountable to the community over the long term.
Response
PLAN FOR THE FUTURE: The time to ensure competitive elections is during the candidate filing period, not on election day. If you are concerned about the direction of the district, consider running for the school board in the next election cycle or encouraging a qualified neighbor to do so.
💰 Impact: Lack of voter choice and reduced long-term accountability.
