Heads up, taxpayers and parents: We’ve audited the upcoming CROSS PLAINS ISD agenda. There are 2 items targeting parental consent and taxpayer funds that need your immediate attention before the gavel falls.
🚨 Alert (LEVEL 9)
Voting to Raise Your Property Taxes
📅 August 26, 2026
The school board is scheduled to vote on a resolution to adopt a tax rate that “Exceeds the District’s No-New-Revenue Tax Rate.” This is a direct vote to increase the total amount of money the district collects in property taxes. Even if the board advertises a lower tax *rate*, this action ensures the average homeowner’s tax bill will go up.
Response

PACK THE ROOM: This is the vote to raise your property taxes. Sign up for the Public Hearing (Item 1) and Public Comment (Item 2). Demand the board adopt the No-New-Revenue rate or provide a detailed, public justification for why they need more of your money. Contact the district office to get board member emails and tell them to vote NO on Item 3.f.

💰 Impact: A higher property tax levy, leading to increased tax bills for homeowners and businesses.
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 7)
Opting Out of State-Mandated Armed Security
📅 August 26, 2026
The board is voting to claim a “good cause exception” under state law (TEC Section 37.0814), which allows them to bypass the requirement to have an armed security officer at every campus. Parents and taxpayers deserve a full public explanation of why the district believes it cannot meet this state security standard and what alternative safety plans are in place to protect students.
Response

DEMAND ANSWERS: Sign up for public comment. Contact the district office for board member emails and ask: ‘Regarding Item 3.h, what specific steps has the district taken to find funding and personnel for an armed officer? What is the alternative plan to ensure student safety if you vote for this exception? We deserve a detailed public explanation before you vote to opt out of state security mandates.’

💰 Impact: Potential gaps in campus security and non-compliance with state safety mandates.
