Federal Grant May Come with Strings Attached

📅 Scheduled Action

The committee is discussing a “COPS” safety grant, likely from the federal government. While presented as “free money,” these grants often come with federal mandates for data collection or hiring that local taxpayers must fund long after the grant money is gone.

Response

DEMAND THE DETAILS: Contact the Crosby ISD administration (see the Official Agenda link for contact info): ‘Regarding Item III, the COPS Safety Grant, what are the long-term requirements, data-sharing mandates, and ongoing financial obligations for the district after the grant funds are spent? Please make the full grant application public.’

💰 Impact: Future Unfunded Mandates

Vague ‘Security Projects’ Lack Public Detail

📅 Scheduled Action

The agenda lists “Safety and Security Projects” with no description, cost, or supporting documents. This lack of transparency prevents taxpayers from knowing what is being planned or how their money might be spent before decisions are made.

Response

INVESTIGATE: Contact the Crosby ISD administration (see the Official Agenda link for contact info): ‘What specific projects are being discussed under Item IV, “Safety and Security Projects”? Taxpayers deserve to see the details and potential costs before any plans are advanced.’

💰 Impact: Undisclosed
