Final Vote on Your 2026-2027 Property Tax Bill
The Covington ISD Board is scheduled to hold a public hearing and then immediately vote to adopt the budget and set the property tax rate for the 2026-2027 school year. This is the most important vote of the year for homeowners’ wallets. Taxpayers must be aware if the proposed rate is higher than the ‘no-new-revenue rate,’ which is the rate that would bring in the same amount of money as last year from existing properties. Due to rising property values, a rate that is advertised as ‘the same’ or even ‘lower’ can still result in a significant tax increase for families.
Response
SHOW UP & SPEAK UP: This is the final vote to set your school property tax rate. Attend the meeting on August 26th and sign up for public comment (Item 3). Urge the board to adopt the ‘no-new-revenue rate’ to prevent a tax hike on homeowners. Demand a recorded vote on the tax rate (Item 4.B) to see where each trustee stands.
💰 Impact: A potential property tax increase if the board adopts a rate above the no-new-revenue calculation.
