Board Proposes Secret Interviews for New Superintendent

The Board wants to change Policy 5.801 to allow interviews for the next Superintendent to be held in secret ‘executive sessions’ with no public notice required. This removes parents’ ability to see and hear from the candidates directly before a hiring decision is made, hiding the selection process for the district’s most powerful position.

PACK THE ROOM: This is a First Reading. Email the Board (contact info on district website) and sign up for public comment. ‘Regarding Item 2.c, Policy 5.801, Superintendent interviews must remain fully open to the public. Do not vote to hide the selection process for our district’s leader behind closed doors.’

Superintendent’s Committee Gets Final Say on School Choice Appeals

Proposed changes to Policy 1.703 would give a ‘special committee’ appointed by the Superintendent the final, unappealable decision on school transfer requests. This removes the full, elected Board as the final authority, making it harder for parents to appeal a decision that’s not in their child’s best interest.
