HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)

District Adopting ‘Character Strong’ SEL Framework

📅 October 12, 2026

Under the guise of ‘continuous improvement,’ the district is presenting its plan to build a ‘Multi-tiered System of Supports’ (MTSS) for both academics and ‘Social, Emotional, Behavioral, and Mental Health’ (SEBMH). This plan explicitly uses a framework from ‘Character Strong,’ a prominent Social Emotional Learning (SEL) vendor, embedding psychological and behavioral interventions into the core school day.

Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: This is a workshop, not a final vote, but it’s where bad policy starts. Contact the Board (see the Official Agenda link for details) and ask: ‘Regarding Item IV, I am concerned about the adoption of the ‘Character Strong’ SEL framework and the expansion of MTSS to include ‘SEBMH’. What specific curriculum will be used, how will student data be protected, and what are the parental opt-out rights at every tier of intervention?’

💰 Impact: Replacing Academics with SEL
