Heads up! We have scanned the upcoming agenda for Vista del Mar Union. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
School Board to Appoint Unelected Member
πŸ“… October 1, 2026
The Board will interview and appoint a new trustee to a vacant seat because no candidates ran in the election. This unelected official will have full voting power over curriculum, budgets, and policies affecting every child in the district. Parents must be present to question the sole applicant and ensure their voice is heard.
Recommended Action Plan

SHOW UP & SPEAK UP: This is a critical opportunity to influence the board’s makeup. Attend the meeting for Action Item 6.A to hear the applicant’s interview and use the public comment period to ask tough questions. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and tell them: ‘Parents, not appointees, should govern our schools. We expect the Board to appoint a trustee who is committed to academic excellence and parental rights.’

πŸ’° Impact: Representation Without Election

Good moves worth showing up to support so they stick.
Major Win (LEVEL 10)
Major Win for Parental Rights in Proposed Policy Updates
πŸ“… October 1, 2026
The Board is voting on a package of policy updates that explicitly strengthen parental rights. Based on a recent court ruling (Mirabelli v. Bonta), the new policies would prohibit district staff from socially transitioning a student or misleading parents about their child’s gender identity at school. The updates also require instructional materials to be factually accurate and free from ‘advocacy, personal opinion, bias, or partisanship.’
How to Lock It In

PACK THE ROOM TO SUPPORT THIS WIN: This is a huge victory we must secure. Show up to the meeting to thank the Board for adopting these common-sense protections. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and state: ‘I strongly support the proposed policy updates in Item 6.D that affirm parental rights and protect our children from ideological activism. Please vote YES.’
