👀 MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
Board to Discuss Governance Model That Can Sideline Parents
📅 2026-09-01
The board is holding a retreat to discuss the book “Great on Their Behalf.” This book promotes a governance model that can empower unelected administrators to implement controversial programs by framing them as “operational details,” reducing the board’s direct oversight and limiting parents’ ability to challenge specific curriculum or policies.
Recommended Action Plan

Email the Board of Directors (see district website for contacts): ‘Regarding your discussion of “Great on Their Behalf,” I urge you to adopt a governance model that increases, not decreases, parental oversight of curriculum and policy. The board’s primary duty is to represent the parents and community, not to delegate that authority to the administration.’
