Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Shaker Heights City. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
| 🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 9) |
|
New Attendance Policies Create Family Surveillance System
The board is fast-tracking two new policies, JED (Student Absences) and JEDA (Truancy), under the guise of managing attendance. The fine print in the attached documents creates a ‘tiered intervention’ system (MTSS) and an ‘Absence Intervention Team’ to investigate the ‘root causes’ of why your child is absent. This gives the school a license to surveil your family, collect data on your child, and intervene in your home life, all without your specific consent for each step.
Recommended Action Plan
PACK THE ROOM: This is a vote tonight. Call Board President Lora Cover at (216) 295-1400 and email Superintendent David Glasner at glasner_d@shaker.org. Demand they pull items JED and JEDA from the agenda. Tell them: ‘Parents will not accept a school-run surveillance system to investigate our families. Vote NO on Item 7.1.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Creation of new administrative teams (‘Absence Intervention Team’) to monitor families.

Paying Teachers Extra for ‘Equity’ and ‘Mental Health’ Training
Under agenda item 3.5, the district is paying teachers extra stipends to participate in a ‘High School Building Equity Leadership Team’ and ‘Sources of Strength Professional Learning.’ ‘Equity Teams’ often push divisive identity politics, while ‘Sources of Strength’ is a mental health program that can lead to student data collection and social-emotional programming that should be handled by parents, not the school.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: This is hidden in a bundled vote. Email Superintendent David Glasner at glasner_d@shaker.org: ‘I demand the Special Assignments in Item 3.5, specifically the Equity Leadership Team and Sources of Strength training, be pulled from the bundled personnel vote (Item 2.1) for a separate discussion and public vote. Taxpayer money should fund academics, not social engineering.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: $1,820 in stipends to fund ideological training.

| ⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6) |

Silencing Parents by Restricting Public Comment
The board’s public comment policy (Item 1.7) is designed to limit parent feedback. It caps the total time for all parents at just 30 minutes and requires online registration hours before the meeting. This prevents parents who learn about an issue last-minute from speaking and is a tactic to control the narrative and rush controversial policies through without real community input.
Recommended Action Plan
FIGHT FOR YOUR VOICE: The board’s rules are meant to discourage you. Don’t let them. Sign up for public comment BEFORE noon on Tuesday using their online form. Call Board President Lora Cover at (216) 295-1400 and tell her: ‘The 30-minute time limit and advance registration for public comment are unacceptable. We demand you expand opportunities for public input, not restrict them.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Loss of parental oversight and public accountability.
