The public comment rules for this meeting require parents to register the day before and submit their topic for pre-approval. The policy states that requests to speak are ‘subject to the approval of the Superintendent and the Board President.’ This gives two individuals the power to censor parents and deny them the right to speak if they don’t like the topic. This is a direct attempt to control the narrative and prevent the board from hearing criticism from the community it is supposed to serve.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the District Office to find the email addresses for the full Board of Education. Email the board: ‘The policy allowing the Superintendent and Board President to pre-screen and deny public comment is an unacceptable violation of public trust. We demand this gatekeeping policy be rescinded immediately. Government works for the parents, not the other way around.’
