Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Ontario Local. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 9)
Secret Changes to Middle School Rules
📅 Vote Scheduled July 14, 2026
The Board is voting to approve the new Middle School Handbook as part of a bundled “Consent Agenda” vote, but they have not provided the document for parents to review. This is how policies on pronouns, bathroom access, and “restorative justice” discipline get passed without public debate. Parents have a right to see the rules their children will live under before they are approved.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Call Board President Todd Friend at (419) 747-4311. Tell him: ‘I demand Item 6.F, the Middle School Handbook, be pulled from the Consent Agenda for a separate discussion and vote. Parents have a right to review this document before it is approved. Post the handbook online immediately.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Undisclosed policy changes
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Changing the Rules for Public Comment
📅 Discussion Scheduled July 14, 2026
The agenda includes an item on the “Guidelines for Public Participation” with an attached file. While this could be a routine update, it could also be an attempt to reduce public comment time, restrict topics, or make it harder for parents to speak at meetings. Any change to these rules must be scrutinized to protect parents’ right to be heard.
Recommended Action Plan

INVESTIGATE: Review the file ‘Public Participation Revised 5-2025.pdf’ attached to Item 3.A in the Official Agenda linked above. If it restricts parents’ ability to speak, call Board President Todd Friend at (419) 747-4311 and demand the board vote NO on any changes that limit public input.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Potential loss of parental speech rights at meetings
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 4)
Following the ‘Student Wellness’ Money
📅 Reported on July 14, 2026
The district’s financial report shows they are receiving “Student Wellness & Success” funds. This is state-level funding that is often used as a backdoor to implement Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, mental health screenings, or other “whole child” initiatives that can collect sensitive data on students without full parental consent.
Recommended Action Plan

MONITOR & QUESTION: Call the district office at (419) 747-4311 and ask Treasurer Randall Harvey: ‘How are the Student Wellness & Success funds being spent? Which specific programs, vendors, or personnel are being paid for with this money?’ We need to track this money trail.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $22,730.20 (State funding with potential strings attached)
