Heads up! We have scanned the upcoming agenda for National Elementary. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 10)
Mental Health Grant Mandates SEL Program, Universal Screening for PreK-3rd Graders
πŸ“… October 14, 2026
Item 9.B ratifies an agreement with SBCS Corporation to provide ‘school-based mental health services’ at Las Palmas School. The attached contract reveals this ‘Prevention Early Intervention Grant’ requires the district to implement a ‘social-emotional’ program called ‘Incredible Years’ and use a ‘screening tool’ on all students from Pre-K to 3rd grade. This opens the door for universal mental health screening and SEL curriculum for children as young as four, without clear parental consent for the screening.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: This is a critical threat. Contact the Board (see the Official Agenda link for details) and sign up for public comment: ‘Vote NO on Item 9.B. Universal mental health screening and social-emotional programming for Pre-K students is a parental rights violation, not an academic priority. We do not consent to our children being screened by outside vendors.’

πŸ’° Impact: Your Child’s Privacy
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
District Approving Multiple EdTech Software Renewals
πŸ“… October 14, 2026
Buried in the purchase orders under Item 7.D.II, the district is renewing multiple student-facing software subscriptions, including Renaissance Learning ($9,646), Seesaw ($3,415), Innovamat ($9,167), and ExploreK12/Raz-Kids ($1,780). These programs increase student screen time, often replacing direct instruction from teachers. The district has not provided any independent evidence that these specific programs produce meaningful academic gains for students.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the Board (see the Official Agenda link for details): ‘Regarding the software renewals in Item 7.D.II (Exhibit B), I request the Board publish the independent, non-vendor-funded evidence showing these programs improve academic outcomes, and disclose the total daily screen time these programs add for students, before approving these expenditures.’

πŸ’° Impact: Increased Screen Time
