State-Mandated ‘Chronic Absenteeism’ Tracking

The district is submitting its state-mandated accountability plan under the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) law. While mostly academic, the plan sets a formal target for reducing ‘chronic absenteeism,’ which can create pressure to adopt more invasive surveillance of students and families, such as home visits or data tracking, to meet state goals.
Recommended Action Plan

Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and ask the Board: ‘Regarding the TISA Accountability Report under Item 2.02, what specific programs or methods will the district use to meet its ‘Chronic Absenteeism’ reduction targets? Parents must be assured that this will not lead to intrusive home visits or family surveillance without full parental consent.’
