Board Proposes New Rules to Limit Public Comment

The Board is reviewing proposed changes to Policy BCBI, which governs public participation. The new language gives the Board Chair the power to limit the total time for public comments and shorten individual speaking times at their discretion, and requires parents to sign up 24 hours in advance to speak on topics not on the agenda.

DEMAND YOUR RIGHT TO BE HEARD: Contact the Jackson County Board of Education (see the Official Agenda link for contact details). ‘Regarding Item VII.ii, Policy BCBI must protect, not restrict, public comment. Do not give the Board Chair discretionary power to silence parents. Vote NO on these restrictive changes.’
