Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for HAYS CISD. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying Against Parental Rights
📅 July 27, 2026
The Board is appointing a representative to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) convention under item E.2. TASB is a powerful lobbying group that often pushes for policies in Austin that weaken parental rights, expand government overreach in schools, and promote ideological agendas. This vote determines who will use our district’s name and influence to shape state law, potentially against the values of our community.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: Sign up for public comment. Demand the Board only appoint a trustee who will publicly commit to voting against any TASB legislative agenda that undermines parental rights or promotes gender ideology. Ask them directly during public comment: ‘Will your chosen delegate vote to defend parental rights at the TASB convention?’ Members should verify board contact information on the district website.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Using local district influence to fund a statewide political lobby.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
Board Surrenders Power to Hire Staff in Secret
📅 July 27, 2026
Under item E.1.b, the Board is voting to temporarily give up its legal authority to approve new administrative hires. This would allow the Superintendent to hire key personnel, like principals, throughout August without a public vote or any oversight from our elected trustees. This is happening during the most critical hiring period of the year, effectively hiding these important decisions from parents until after school has already started.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email the Board of Trustees and demand they vote NO on Item E.1.b. ‘The Board must not surrender its oversight authority. All administrative hires must be approved in a public meeting, even if it requires calling a special session. Do not approve secret summer hires.’ Members should verify board contact information on the district website.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Loss of public oversight and accountability.
