Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Dayton Public Schools. We found 7 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 10)
Outsourcing Student Services to Ideological ‘Experts’ for $6.3 Million
📅 July 14, 2026
The board is set to approve a massive $6.3 million contract with the Montgomery County Educational Service Center (ESC). Buried in the long list of services are ‘SEL Consultant Services’ and an ‘Inclusive Excellence Coordinator.’ This outsources core student services to an unelected, outside agency, making it harder for parents to hold anyone accountable. This money will fund programs that focus on students’ emotions, beliefs, and identities instead of academics.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: We need every available parent at this meeting. Sign up for public comment. Call Board President William Bailey at (937) 542-7013: ‘Vote NO on the $6.3M Montgomery County ESC contract in Item 6.C. We will not pay millions for outside consultants to push SEL and DEI on our children. Keep these services in-house and accountable to parents.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $6,292,646.00
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 9)
Hiding Social Emotional Learning in Your Child’s Music Class
📅 July 14, 2026
The district plans to spend $38,400 on a K-8 music curriculum from QuaverEd (Item 7.H). This vendor is known for heavily embedding Social Emotional Learning (SEL) content into its lessons. Instead of learning music theory and history, young students will be subjected to lessons on managing their emotions and social skills, which is the job of parents, not the music teacher.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Treasurer Hiwot Abraha at hiabraha@daytonpublic.com and Superintendent David Lawrence at dlawrence@daytonpublic.com: ‘Pull the QuaverEd purchase requisition from the agenda. Parents have a right to review any curriculum with embedded SEL content. We want our children learning music, not undergoing psychological programming.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $38,400.00
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
Adopting Math Curriculum from a Controversial Vendor
📅 July 14, 2026
Under the vague heading ‘Contracts’ (Item 6.A), the Superintendent is pushing through a $76,108.68 contract with Carnegie Learning for math curriculum. While it sounds academic, Carnegie Learning has been criticized for embedding Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and other social justice concepts directly into its math problems, replacing core academics with social engineering.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Superintendent David Lawrence at dlawrence@daytonpublic.com: ‘I demand Item 6.A, the Carnegie Learning contract, be pulled for a separate discussion and vote. Parents deserve to review the curriculum materials for ideological content before you spend over $200,000. Is this curriculum focused on math, or on social agendas?’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $204,554.00 (Total over 3 years)
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
Secret $340,000 Contract for Student Psychological Services
📅 July 14, 2026
The board is being asked to approve a $340,000 payment to ‘The Stepping Stones Group’ for a host of psychological and behavioral services, including school psychologists and ‘behavior analysts’ (Item 7.I). This item is on the ‘Then & Now’ list, which means the district already spent the money or incurred the debt without prior board approval. This is a massive transparency violation for services that directly impact students’ mental and behavioral health.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY: Email Treasurer Hiwot Abraha at hiabraha@daytonpublic.com: ‘Why is a $340,000 contract for sensitive psychological services from The Stepping Stones Group being approved after the fact? This is a violation of public trust and fiscal responsibility. Who authorized this spending without Board approval?’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $340,000.00
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
New Org Chart Reveals Bloated Ideological Bureaucracy
📅 July 14, 2026
The new district organizational chart for SY27 (Item 6.D) reveals a bureaucracy focused on ideology, not academics. Key positions include a ‘Director of Cultural Engagement’ (a DEI role), ‘MTSS Coaches’ (to run student interventions), and ‘Life Coaches.’ These non-academic positions divert resources from the classroom and create a system to push social agendas onto students.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND ANSWERS: Call Board President William Bailey at (937) 542-7013: ‘The new organizational chart is filled with non-academic positions like a Director of Cultural Engagement. How much taxpayer money is being spent on these administrative roles instead of on teachers and reading specialists? We need to focus on academics, not ideology.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Salaries for multiple non-academic administrative positions.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
Paying Staff Extra to Implement Student Intervention System (MTSS)
📅 July 14, 2026
The district is paying two staff members extra for ‘MTSS’ duties (Item 5.F). MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is the Trojan Horse for implementing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and other behavioral interventions. It creates a system for identifying and ‘treating’ students for non-academic issues, often without full parental knowledge or consent, and collecting sensitive data on your child’s behavior.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND ANSWERS: Email Superintendent David Lawrence at dlawrence@daytonpublic.com: ‘Regarding Item 5.F, what specific duties will the MTSS staff perform? Will parents be notified and required to provide consent before any behavioral or psychological intervention is administered to their child under the MTSS framework? What data is being collected on students?’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Up to $7,682.00
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Rushing Policy Changes to Sideline the Elected Board
📅 July 14, 2026
The board is using a ‘simultaneous 1st and 2nd reading’ (Item 2.A) to rush through policy changes, a tactic that limits public review time. The changes appear to strip the elected Board of its authority to hire teachers and administrators, handing that power almost exclusively to the unelected Superintendent. This means parents have less say over who is in the classroom because their elected representatives are being sidelined.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Call Board President William Bailey at (937) 542-7013 and email Superintendent David Lawrence at dlawrence@daytonpublic.com. ‘I demand Item 2.A be split into separate readings to allow for public review. Why are you rushing to give the Superintendent more power and reduce the authority of our elected Board members?’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Loss of parental oversight via elected officials.
