Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Cincinnati Public Schools. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
| 🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 10) |
|
Tax Hike to Fund Social-Emotional Engineering in Every Class
The Board is voting on a massive property or income tax levy to fund a new ‘Strategic Plan.’ Buried in this plan (Priority 3) is a mandate to ‘Embed social-emotional learning as a core practice, not an add-on program.’ This means SEL will be woven into every subject, including math and science, shifting the focus from academics to subjective, values-based instruction. They are asking for more of your money to fundamentally change what your child learns.
Recommended Action Plan
PACK THE ROOM: The board is linking a tax hike directly to ideological curriculum. Call Board President Eve Bolton at (513) 363-0425 and email Superintendent Shauna Murphy at murphys@cps-k12.org: ‘I will not pay higher taxes to replace core academics with social-emotional learning. Vote NO on any new levy tied to this Strategic Plan.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Proposed 7-mill, 8-mill, or 0.75% income tax increase.

| 🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8) |
|
Creating a School Surveillance System for ‘Whole-Child’ Support
The new Strategic Plan (Priority 3) calls for a ‘tiered, school-supported approach to reducing chronic absenteeism’ and expanding ‘mental health and wraparound resources.’ This language is a Trojan horse for creating a surveillance system that monitors students and families, potentially leading to school-based mental health interventions and data collection that bypass parental consent. It positions the school, not the parent, as the primary caregiver.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Superintendent Shauna Murphy at murphys@cps-k12.org: ‘Regarding Priority 3 of the Strategic Plan, what specific mental health providers will the district partner with? Will parents have to sign explicit consent for any mental health service or screening? What does the ‘tiered outreach’ for chronic absenteeism involve and will it include home visits?’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Loss of parental authority over children’s mental health and family privacy.

| ⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7) |
|
Board Grants Itself Power to Silence Parent Dissent
The fine print of the agenda gives the Board President the ‘discretion to limit the total amount of time given to a single issue’ during public comment. If a large number of parents show up to oppose the tax hike or the SEL-focused strategic plan, the President can shut down all public comment on that topic after just 30 minutes, silencing the opposition. This is a tool to control the narrative and ignore parental concerns.
Recommended Action Plan
PROTECT OUR VOICE: Call Board President Eve Bolton at (513) 363-0425: ‘I see you have the power to limit public comment on any single issue. I urge you to commit publicly at the July 27th meeting that you will not use this rule to silence parents who wish to speak on the proposed tax levy and strategic plan.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Loss of public accountability and First Amendment rights at meetings.
