Summary — 3/9/2026:
Our monitoring of Liberty Union-Thurston Local, Local School District has identified 3 agenda items that warrant community action.
PRIORITY LEVEL 7
Hiding Spending and Staffing in Bundled Votes
đź“…  Meeting on March 9, 2026
The board is using a procedural trick to pass entire sections—Financial, Personnel, and Other—with a single vote for each. This buries important items like a $30k student data contract and the new overdose drug policy alongside routine business, hoping you won't notice or object.
Recommended Action
Email Superintendent Michael Johnson at mike.johnson@libertyunion.org: 'I demand that Item 4.B (Meta Solutions Contract) and Item 7.B (Overdose Drug Policy) be pulled from their bundled sections for separate discussion and individual roll-call votes at the March 9 meeting. Stop hiding controversial items.'
đź’°  Cost: Reduced Transparency
PRIORITY LEVEL 6
Overdose Reversal Drugs Now in Our Schools
đź“…  Final vote on March 9, 2026
The Board is giving final approval to a policy to stock and administer Narcan, an overdose reversal drug, in district schools. This is a terrifying admission of the drug crisis now inside our school buildings. This policy is a reaction to a problem the administration has not been transparent about.
Recommended Action
Call Board President Caryl Caito at (740) 862-4171: 'Regarding Policy EBDE on overdose drugs, how many student overdose incidents have occurred in the last 24 months to make this policy necessary? The community deserves to know the true state of student safety.'
đź’°  Cost: Admission of a drug crisis
PRIORITY LEVEL 5
The $30k Student Data Tracking System
đź“…  Vote on March 9, 2026
The board is approving over $30,000 for 'Meta Solutions,' a data company that runs the student information system (PowerSchool/ProgressBook). These systems can be used to track more than just grades, including sensitive behavioral and social-emotional data, creating a permanent digital record on your child without your knowledge.
Recommended Action
Email Treasurer April Bolyard at april.bolyard@libertyunion.org: 'Regarding the Meta Solutions contract in Item 4.B, what specific student data points will be collected and stored in the SIS? Who has access to this data, and can parents get a copy of their child's complete digital file?'
đź’°  Cost: $30,634.45
