The Board is meeting in a closed, secret session (Item 4.A) to discuss a ‘Good Governance Handbook’ and will then immediately vote to approve it (Item 5.A). These handbooks are often used as tools to silence board members who represent parents, limit their ability to investigate issues, and control the flow of information to the public. Approving a document that the public has never seen is a major transparency violation.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email the Judson ISD Board. Insist they table the vote on Item 5.A, ‘Good Governance Handbook.’ Demand the draft handbook be posted on the district website for 30 days of public review and comment before any vote is taken. Our elected officials should not be writing their own rules in secret.

Families need to pay close attention to how the district is spending money before they ask for more.

PAY ATTENTION: Contact the Judson ISD Board and ask for a full, detailed presentation on the proposed tax rate to be made public before the August 3rd meeting. Ask them to outline every budget cut they have considered before asking taxpayers for more money.
