The Board’s public comment policy gives the Superintendent and Board President the power to approve or deny a parent’s request to speak on an agenda item. They also have the power to block parents from adding items to the agenda. This is a classic gatekeeping tactic designed to control the conversation and prevent the board from hearing dissenting voices. They are trying to make it harder for you to hold them accountable.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the District Office. ‘The public comment policies described in the August 6th agenda are an unacceptable barrier to public participation. The Superintendent and Board President should not have veto power over who is allowed to speak or what topics can be discussed. We demand these gatekeeping policies be removed to ensure transparency and accountability.’
