WARNING (LEVEL 7)
District Explores Property Tax Hike Election
📅 November 2, 2026
The board will hold a training session to discuss a ‘Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election’ (VATRE). This is the first step toward asking voters to approve a property tax rate higher than the state allows without an election, potentially leading to a significant tax increase for property owners.
Response

GET AHEAD OF THE TAX HIKE: This is a planning session for a future tax increase. Contact the La Grange ISD board (see district website for contact info) before the November 2 meeting. Ask them: ‘Regarding Item II.C, please commit to finding savings within the current budget before considering a VATRE to raise property taxes.’

💰 Impact: Higher Property Taxes

Board to Discuss State Legislative Agenda
📅 November 2, 2026
The board will be briefed on ‘Legislative Updates’ from the state capitol. These sessions can be used by lobbying groups to encourage school districts to oppose taxpayer-friendly reforms like property tax relief and expanded parental rights.
Response

DEMAND NEUTRALITY: Contact the La Grange ISD board and ask them to ensure the ‘Legislative Updates’ in Item II.B are informational only. Tell them: ‘Please do not use our taxpayer dollars to lobby the legislature against the interests of taxpayers and parents.’

💰 Impact: Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying
