ALERT (LEVEL 3)
Vague ‘Mastery’ Learning Discussion on Agenda
📅 October 27, 2026
The Program Excellence Committee will discuss the ‘current state’ of ‘Mastery’ learning. While this could be about academic rigor, the term is often a euphemism for programs that eliminate traditional grading and can hold back high-achieving students, a major concern for a school for gifted children.
Recommended Action Plan

Contact the Menlo Park Academy Governing Board (see the Official Agenda link for contact details) regarding Item III.A. Ask: ‘Please define what “Mastery” means in this context and clarify what problem this discussion is intended to solve before any changes are proposed to the academic model for our gifted students.’
