Board Hiding Details of a New Tax Levy
The agenda lists ‘Levy Resolution’ (Item 5.03) for a vote, but the district has deliberately failed to attach the actual document for the public to read. This is a severe transparency violation. At the same time their credit rating is being downgraded for fiscal incompetence, they are preparing to ask taxpayers for more money without even showing us the details. They are asking for a blank check after running the district’s finances into the ground.
Recommended Action Plan
PACK THE ROOM: Sign up for public comment. Email Superintendent Romules Durant at rdurant@tps.org and call the Board office at (419) 671-0350: ‘We demand you pull Item 5.03 from the agenda. Do not vote on a secret tax levy. Release the full text of the resolution and explain the district’s financial crisis before asking taxpayers for another dime.’

District Downgraded for Financial Crisis, Plans to Close Schools
A new credit rating report from Moody’s (Item 4.05) has downgraded the district’s financial standing, citing ‘four years of operating deficits’ that have ‘materially weakened’ its finances. Buried in this report is the administration’s plan to deal with the crisis they created: an ‘ambitious expenditure reduction plan’ for next year that includes closing seven schools and cutting staff. The board has been overseeing years of financial mismanagement, and now our children and neighborhoods will pay the price with school closures.
Recommended Action Plan
PACK THE ROOM: The board has been hiding a financial crisis that will lead to closing neighborhood schools. Call Board President Randall Parker Iii at (419) 671-0350 and demand a public town hall to explain this financial disaster before a single school is closed.
