Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Bethel Local. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
New Surveillance System: Bathroom Vape Sensors and Cameras
📅 Vote Scheduled July 28, 2026
Hidden in the ‘Consent Agenda’ is a five-year, $158,732 contract for a new security system. The proposal explicitly states it will install vape sensors in student bathrooms and sync them with cameras for ‘easier investigation.’ This is a significant expansion of student surveillance, creating a new monitoring system around private spaces without a full public discussion or clear policy on how the data will be used and stored.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Superintendent Michael Nutter at nutterm@blsk12.org: ‘I demand Item 6.C, the RTI security contract, be pulled from the Consent Agenda for a separate discussion and roll-call vote. Parents deserve to know the full extent of this new student surveillance system before you spend $158,000.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $158,732.64 (plus $14,651 in future fees)
👀 MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
Restricting Parent Voices at Meetings
📅 In effect at July 28, 2026 meeting
The board’s official public participation policy, listed under item 5.A, limits the entire public comment period to just one hour and allows the board president to terminate any parent’s statement for being ‘off-topic’ or ‘irrelevant.’ These rules can be used to silence parents who bring up uncomfortable truths about curriculum or policy, effectively managing dissent rather than encouraging open dialogue.
Recommended Action Plan

BE PREPARED: If you plan to speak, know the rules. The Board limits total comment time and can cut you off. Sign up early and make your five minutes count. Call Board President Jacqueline Leskowich at (937) 845-9414 and demand the one-hour total time limit be removed to ensure all parents are heard.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Suppression of parental input
