Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Boardman Local. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 10)
New Program Shares Student Mental Health Data with Outside Group
📅 Vote Scheduled July 27, 2026
The Board is spending $45,000 (Item 16.C) to implement the ‘bryt’ program for students returning from a ‘mental health-related disruption.’ The program requires school staff to enter sensitive student data—including demographic, progress, and outcome information—into a ‘bryt Portal Database’ managed by an out-of-state mental health center. This creates a permanent, external record of your child’s mental health struggles, bypassing parental control over their private data.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: We need parents at the July 27th meeting. Sign up for public comment. Call Board President John Fryda at (330) 726-3403: ‘Vote NO on the bryt and HWS BRYT agreements in Item 16.C. We do not consent to sharing our children’s private mental health data with third-party vendors.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: $45,000
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 10)
District to Pay for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Group Therapy
📅 Vote Scheduled July 27, 2026
Under the vague heading ‘Service Agreements’ (Item 16.C), the Board is approving a contract with HWS Best Health specifically for ‘SEL Group Services.’ This brings outside therapists into the school to conduct group sessions focused on feelings and social engineering, not academics. Parents are often not informed of the specific curriculum used in these sessions, which can introduce controversial topics without their consent.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Call Board President John Fryda at (330) 726-3403 and contact Superintendent Christopher Neifer: ‘I demand the HWS Best Health SEL Group Service Agreement in Item 16.C be pulled for a separate discussion and vote. What specific curriculum will be used in these SEL groups, and how can parents review it and opt their children out?’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Up to $22,000
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
Embedding Outside Therapists and ‘Case Managers’ in Schools
📅 Vote Scheduled July 27, 2026
The Board is approving a contract (Item 16.C) with HWS Best Health to place two therapists and two ‘Case Managers’ inside our schools to provide ‘diagnostic assessments’ and therapy. The district has agreed to pay up to $78,000 for any services that insurance won’t cover, plus an $800 monthly administration fee. This creates a school-based clinic that operates outside of a parent’s presence and blurs the line between education and medical treatment.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Call Board Vice President Victoria Davis at (330) 726-3403: ‘Regarding the HWS Mental Health Services Agreement in Item 16.C, what is the exact parental notification and consent process before a child is seen by an HWS therapist or case manager? We must have an ironclad opt-in policy.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Up to $87,600 ($78,000 in services + $9,600 admin fee)
