NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Unvetted SEL and Mental Health Programs in Middle School
πŸ“… October 15, 2026
The Jefferson Middle School calendar reveals several programs being implemented without board-level discussion or parental review. These include an ‘iLead’ program teaching ‘self-worth’ and ‘servanthood,’ a ‘Mental Health Strategies’ presentation, and a ‘YouScience’ assessment, all of which can introduce Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and collect sensitive student data. The district also confirms use of MTSS, a framework often used for behavioral interventions.
Recommended Action Plan

ASK THE BOARD: During Public Comment, ask about the programs on the Jefferson Middle School October calendar. ‘What is the curriculum for the iLead program? Who is presenting on ‘Mental Health Strategies’ and what are their qualifications? What specific data does the YouScience assessment collect, and how can parents review it and opt out?’ Demand all materials for these programs be made available for parental review.

MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
District Developing Student AI Policy Without Parental Input
πŸ“… October 15, 2026
The Technology Report reveals a teacher-only committee is developing a district-wide AI policy, to be presented at the November board retreat. Parents must get involved now to ensure this policy includes strong protections for student data privacy, prevents ideological bias in AI tools, and doesn’t replace teacher instruction with chatbots.
Recommended Action Plan

GET A SEAT AT THE TABLE: Contact the Board (see district website for contact info) and speak during Public Comment. ‘Regarding the Technology Report, we demand that parents be included on the Technology Advisory Committee developing the new AI policy. This policy must be developed in public, not behind closed doors, with full parental oversight to protect our children’s data and educational experience.’
