Heads up! We have scanned the upcoming agenda for Johnston Comm School District. We found 1 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
District Pushing Mental Health Framework to Replace Student Discipline
πŸ“… October 20, 2026
The district’s advisory committee is developing recommendations based on a ‘Social, Emotional, Behavioral, and Mental Health’ (SEBMH) model. This approach often replaces consequences for misbehavior with therapeutic interventions and uses data dashboards to track students, potentially leading to school-based services without full parental involvement.
Recommended Action Plan

This is an advisory committee, which means parents have a chance to shape policy before it gets to the Board for a final vote. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and ask for the contact information for the SEBMH/Behavior committee members. Email them: ‘I am concerned by the focus on an SEBMH model over traditional discipline. Parents must be the primary authority on their child’s mental health, and school policies should prioritize accountability and classroom safety.’
