ALERT (LEVEL 8)
District to Discuss Opting Out of State-Mandated Armed Officer Requirement
📅 October 12, 2026
The board will meet in a closed session to discuss a ‘good cause exception’ to the House Bill 3 requirement for an armed security officer at every campus. This means the district may be seeking to avoid complying with a key state safety law, and the public deserves a full explanation before any vote is taken in open session.
Response

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the Deweyville ISD board before the meeting. Ask: ‘Regarding Item 4.D, the board must publicly state its reasons for seeking a ‘good cause exception’ to the HB3 armed officer mandate *before* voting. What is the district’s alternative plan to keep our kids safe?’

💰 Impact: Reduced Campus Security
