ALERT (LEVEL 10)
Board to Authorize Issuing New ‘Unlimited Tax’ Bonds
📅 October 20, 2026
The board is voting to issue ‘Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds.’ This action locks taxpayers into long-term debt and authorizes a direct annual property tax to pay for it, potentially for decades. The term ‘Unlimited Tax’ means the district can raise the debt service portion of the tax rate as high as necessary to cover payments.
Response

PACK THE ROOM: This is the vote that raises your future property taxes. Show up Tuesday and sign up for public comment on Item VII.J. Demand the board explain the total cost of this debt, including interest, and confirm when voters approved it.

💰 Impact: Long-Term Property Tax Increases
ALERT (LEVEL 8)
Plan to Move School Board Elections to November
📅 October 20, 2026
The board will vote to move its trustee elections from May to the November general election date. While this is often framed as increasing turnout, it buries local school issues under partisan state and federal races, making it harder for parents to hold trustees accountable on education-specific topics.
Response

DEMAND A RECORDED VOTE: Contact the Ferris ISD Board before Tuesday’s meeting and ask them to vote NO on Item VII.G. ‘Keep our school board elections focused on schools. Moving them to November drowns out local parent voices in partisan noise.’

💰 Impact: Reduced Local Accountability
