Family Forced into Legal Battle for School Choice

A family is appealing the San Marcos district’s decision to deny their child a transfer. The family has had to hire an advocate and now faces a team of district administrators and county lawyers in a closed-door hearing, highlighting the bureaucratic hurdles parents must overcome to choose the best school for their kids.
Recommended Action Plan

SUPPORT PARENTAL CHOICE: While Hearing #2 (Item 3.a) is in closed session, parents can still speak during public comment. Urge the County Board to consistently support parents in interdistrict appeals and ask why districts are spending resources to fight families instead of educating children. ‘We stand with the Abeyta family.
