Heads up! We have scanned the upcoming agenda for Castaic Union. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 9)
New Before/After School Program Embeds SEL and ‘Equity’
πŸ“… October 8, 2026
The district is considering hiring a third-party company, ‘Right at School,’ to run its before and after-school programs. The company’s own proposal (Item XVIII.1) repeatedly states its curriculum is built on ‘Social-Emotional Learning,’ ‘Equity & Belonging,’ ‘culturally-responsive teaching,’ and developing ‘positive identity.’ This outsources the shaping of your child’s values and beliefs to an outside vendor, paid for with a mix of parent fees and state ELOP funds.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: This is a discussion item, meaning we can stop it before it becomes policy. Sign up for public comment for the October 8th meeting. Email the Board of Trustees: ‘Regarding Discussion Item XVIII.1, we do not want third-party ideological vendors like Right at School. Before and after-school care should be safe and fun, not a vehicle for social-emotional programming and equity initiatives.’

πŸ’° Impact: Ideological Outsourcing
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
District Proposes Hiring ‘Kid Uber’ Service, Hides Contract
πŸ“… October 8, 2026
The district plans to approve a contract with HopSkipDrive, a ride-sharing service for children, to transport students. While the stated purpose is for special education services, the full contract (Attachment 7) has not been made public in the agenda, preventing parents from reviewing the terms, liability, and safety protocols for this ‘Uber for kids’ service.
Recommended Action Plan

INVESTIGATE & DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Superintendent Bob Brauneisen and Board President Laura Pearson. ‘Regarding Action Item XVI.2.a, please pull the HopSkipDrive contract from the agenda until the full contract is made public for parental review. Parents have a right to know the safety, vetting, and liability terms before the district hires a ride-sharing service for our children.’

πŸ’° Impact: Student Safety & Liability
MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
District to Print LGBTQ Activist Group Hotline on Student IDs
πŸ“… October 8, 2026
In a proposed update to the district’s safety policy (AR 5142), the district will require all 7th and 8th grade student ID cards to include the hotline for The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ activist organization. While suicide prevention is critical, mandating the promotion of a specific political activist group on student IDs is an ideological endorsement.
Recommended Action Plan

ASK THE BOARD: This is a discussion item (XVIII.2). Email Superintendent Bob Brauneisen and the Board of Trustees: ‘Regarding the proposed AR 5142, why is the district choosing to exclusively promote the activist group The Trevor Project on student IDs instead of neutral resources like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988)? The district should not be using its resources to endorse specific political organizations to our children.’

πŸ’° Impact: Ideological Endorsement
