Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Solon City. We found 4 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 9)
New ‘Wellness Center’ Can Offer Mental Health Services Without Parental Consent
📅 Vote Scheduled July 13, 2026
The new High School Handbook, being approved under Item C.3, establishes a ‘Wellness Center’ staffed by a ‘mental health professional.’ The policy allows students to visit this center for ‘support and resources’ with just a pass from a teacher. There is no language requiring parental notification or consent for these sessions, creating a confidential school-based clinic that operates outside of parental oversight. This is where sensitive topics like gender identity can be discussed with your child without your knowledge.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: This is a major violation of parental rights. Call Board President Julie Glavin at (440) 349-6204 and email Superintendent Fred Bolden at fredbolden@solonboe.org. Demand they add a parental notification and opt-in requirement for any non-academic ‘support’ offered at the Wellness Center. Vote NO on Item C.3 until this is fixed.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Salary for a full-time ‘mental health professional’.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
School Adopts Policy to Police Students’ Private Social Media
📅 Vote Scheduled July 13, 2026
The new district-wide Code of Conduct, part of the handbook approval in Item C.3, gives administrators the power to punish students for ‘inappropriate’ online comments made off-campus. The policy specifically targets speech related to ‘gender or sexual orientation.’ This is a massive overreach that makes the school, not parents, the authority over a child’s private speech and beliefs, chilling free expression and violating parental rights.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Superintendent Fred Bolden at fredbolden@solonboe.org and ask: ‘Under what legal authority can the district discipline students for speech that occurs outside of school property and school hours? Vote NO on Item C.3 until this unconstitutional policy is removed.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Potential legal fees defending First Amendment challenges.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Subjective ‘Hostile Environment’ Rules Open to Ideological Enforcement
📅 Vote Scheduled July 13, 2026
The district’s new Code of Conduct (Item C.3) prohibits conduct and dress that creates a ‘hostile, intimidating, or harassing learning environment.’ These terms are undefined and highly subjective. This creates a speech code that can be used to punish students for expressing traditional or conservative viewpoints if another student or staff member claims to be offended.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND CLARITY: Call the Board at (440) 349-6204 and email Superintendent Fred Bolden at fredbolden@solonboe.org. ‘I demand that you add clear, objective, and viewpoint-neutral definitions for ‘hostile environment’ and ‘harassment’ to the Code of Conduct before it is approved.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Chilling effect on student free speech and expression of religious or conservative values.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 5)
Taxpayer Dollars Used to Fund ‘Social Justice’ Teacher Degrees
📅 Vote Scheduled July 13, 2026
Under Item C.5, the board is approving tuition reimbursement for teachers to take courses at the American College of Education, an institution known for its focus on ‘social justice’ and ‘equity.’ Courses like ‘Community Engagement & Outreach’ often train educators in political activism rather than academic instruction. This means our local tax dollars are funding the importation of progressive ideology into our classrooms.
Recommended Action Plan

ASK THE QUESTION: Email Treasurer Timothy Pickana at tim.pickana@solonboe.org: ‘What is the district’s vetting process for approving tuition reimbursements? We demand that taxpayer funds only support professional development that focuses on academic excellence, not political or social agendas.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Cost of tuition reimbursement for ideological courses.
