Heads up! We have scanned the upcoming agenda for William S. Hart Union High. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
District to Allow University Psychology & Counseling Interns Access to Students
πŸ“… October 7, 2026
The district is approving agreements to place student interns from the University of Massachusetts Global in our schools to provide psychology and ‘marriage and family counseling’ services. This brings outside personnel with unstated therapeutic approaches into direct contact with students, potentially without specific, case-by-case parental consent. Parents have a right to know who is counseling their children and to give explicit consent for any mental health services.
Recommended Action Plan

Demand transparency. Email the Board (see Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Pull Consent Items XI.B.4 and XI.B.5 for a separate vote. What is the district’s policy for notifying parents and obtaining active, written consent before one of these university interns provides psychological or counseling services to a minor?’

πŸ’° Impact: Undisclosed Mental Health Services
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Mature-Themed Books Proposed for Middle Schoolers
πŸ“… October 7, 2026
The board is voting to adopt new English textbooks for 7th and 8th graders. Two of the books, ‘House Arrest’ and ‘Ghost,’ feature main characters dealing with intense trauma, domestic violence, and criminal acts like theft. Parents should have the right to review these materials and understand the mature themes their children will be exposed to.
Recommended Action Plan

Email the Board before the meeting (see Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Regarding Item IX.B, I request the Board delay the vote on ‘House Arrest’ and ‘Ghost’ until parents are given a clear summary of the mature themes and an opportunity to review the books. We must have transparency on what our middle schoolers are reading.’

πŸ’° Impact: Parental Review Bypassed
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Federal Funds Used for ‘MTSS’ Student Intervention Program
πŸ“… October 7, 2026
Under Item XI.C.2, the district is using an additional $10,761 in federal Title I funds to expand a program called ‘MTSS Academic Support.’ Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is often a trojan horse for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and behavioral data collection on students, all under the guise of ‘academic support.’ Parents need to know if this program is tracking non-academic data on their children.
Recommended Action Plan

Ask the Board to clarify. Email the Board (see Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Regarding the MTSS expansion in Consent Item XI.C.2, please confirm publicly that this program will not involve non-academic student surveys, behavioral data collection, or SEL interventions without explicit, opt-in parental consent.’

πŸ’° Impact: $10,761 (Federal Strings Attached)
