Board Discussing Change to Election System

The board is meeting with lawyers in a closed session (Item 5.1) to discuss changing from an at-large to a single-member district election system, followed by a public discussion of the process (Item 7.1). This fundamental change to how trustees are elected could be used to draw maps that protect incumbents and pre-determine election outcomes, a practice known as gerrymandering.

Show up to monitor the discussion on Item 7.1. Contact the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees (see district website for contact info): ‘The process for changing to single-member districts must be fully transparent. I urge you to ensure any proposed maps are drawn in public with maximum citizen input to prevent gerrymandering.’
