Board to Discuss School Safety Plans in Secret Session

The Board is holding a closed-door meeting to discuss ‘Safety and Security Plans’ using the ‘Florida Safe Schools Assessment Tool.’ While some security discussions must be confidential, this process denies parents any oversight into what policies are being created or what data is collected under the banner of ‘safety,’ which can be a gateway for student surveillance.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: The board is meeting in secret. Contact Superintendent John Legg’s office at (813) 794-2000 and find his email on the district website to ask: ‘Regarding the Oct 6th closed session on Safety and Security, what non-confidential policies were discussed? We demand a public briefing on the principles guiding these plans and a full copy of the ‘Florida Safe Schools Assessment Tool’ so parents can see what data is being collected.’
