This format can be used to prevent parents from hearing each other’s concerns in a public forum, making it harder to identify shared issues and present a united front to the entire board.

SHOW UP & UNIFY: This ‘listening session’ format with ‘break out groups’ is often used to divide parents and prevent the board from hearing a unified message. Coordinate with other parents beforehand to ensure your key concerns are raised in every group and demand a public report-out from each group when everyone reconvenes. Ask the board: ‘How will the feedback from each separate group be recorded and made public?’
