Summary — 3/19/2026: Our monitoring of Akron City, City School District has identified 3 agenda items that warrant community action.
|
PRIORITY LEVEL 9
|
|
District Buys $148k Student Surveillance System
The Board is hiding a $148,500 contract with Panorama Education, Inc. in the Consent Agenda. This company is known for data-mining students through 'wellness' surveys and pushing radical equity and SEL metrics. This creates a permanent surveillance system to track and profile your children based on their attitudes and beliefs.
Recommended Action
Procedural Demand: Email Superintendent Mary Outley-Kelly at moutley@akron.k12.oh.us and Board President Diana Autry at (330) 761-1661: 'I demand Item 3.02.A.4, the Panorama contract, be pulled from the Consent Agenda for a separate roll-call vote. The public will not fund a student surveillance system without a full debate.'

PRIORITY LEVEL 8
|
|
Board Spends $125k on SEL Curriculum
A $125,432 contract with 'Second Step' for a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum is buried in the Consent Agenda. This is not about academics; it's a Trojan horse for teaching children subjective social and political values chosen by activists, not parents. This money should be spent on math and reading, not social engineering.
Recommended Action
Public Question: Email Treasurer R. Wayne Bowers at rbowers@akron.k12.oh.us: 'Regarding Item 3.02.A.2, the Second Step contract, can the public review the full curriculum before you spend $125,000? We must see what our children will be taught before you approve this.'

PRIORITY LEVEL 6

New 'Restorative Practices' Staff Hired
The district is creating new positions and paying extra stipends for 'Restorative Practices' facilitators. This is an ideological alternative to traditional discipline that often keeps disruptive students in the classroom, reduces consequences for bad behavior, and compromises the safety and learning environment for all other students.
Recommended Action
Public Question: Call Board President Diana Autry at (330) 761-1661: 'Regarding Item 3.01, how will adding Restorative Practices staff affect the district's formal disciplinary code? Will parents be notified when this alternative discipline is used instead of suspension for serious offenses?'
