Summary — 3/13/2026:
Our monitoring of Independence Local, Local School District has identified 3 agenda items that warrant community action.
PRIORITY LEVEL 9
New Policy To Force Gender Ideology Into Schools
📅  First Reading on March 16, 2026
The Board is introducing Policy #2266, 'Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex.' This is a common Trojan horse used to redefine 'sex' to include 'gender identity,' which can force girls to share bathrooms and sports teams with biological males and compel staff to use pronouns against their beliefs.
Recommended Action
Email Superintendent Kelli Cogan at kcogan@independence.k12.oh.us: 'Regarding the First Reading of Policy #2266, I demand to know if this policy defines 'sex' to include 'gender identity.' Parents will not accept any policy that undermines student privacy and safety.'
💰  Cost: Undefined Liability (Loss of student privacy and safety)
PRIORITY LEVEL 7
Ten Policies Hidden in a Single Consent Vote
📅  Vote Scheduled for March 16, 2026
The Board is bundling ten separate policy changes, including 'School Safety' and 'Student Fees,' into one 'consent' vote. This is a procedural trick to avoid public debate and a roll-call vote on each item. What are they trying to pass without you noticing?
Recommended Action
Procedural Demand: Call Board President Tony Avila at (216) 642-5854: 'I demand that Item I.3, the bundle of ten policies, be pulled from the Consent Agenda. Each policy deserves its own discussion and a separate vote. Stop hiding policy changes from the public.'
💰  Cost: Reduced Accountability
PRIORITY LEVEL 4
Questioning the 'Student Services' Director Role
📅  Vote on March 16, 2026
The Board is renewing a 3-year contract for the 'Director of Student Services.' This position often oversees Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and other 'wellness' initiatives that can collect sensitive data on students and introduce controversial social theories. Parents have a right to know this director's agenda.
Recommended Action
Public Question: Email Superintendent Kelli Cogan at kcogan@independence.k12.oh.us: 'Regarding the renewal of the Director of Student Services contract, please provide a public summary of the programs this director has implemented and what new initiatives are planned for the next three years.'
💰  Cost: Salary for 3 years (Amount Undisclosed)
