Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Strongsville City. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Using Your Tax Dollars for Political Lobbying
📅 August 27, 2026
The board is appointing a delegate to the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) conference under item E.7. This delegate will vote on the OSBA’s legislative platform, using the district’s official position and resources to lobby the state government on political issues that may not align with parents’ values.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY: Call Board President Laura Wolfe-Housum at (440) 572-7021 and state: ‘The board’s job is to run our schools, not to lobby Columbus. I demand the OSBA delegate publicly report back on every legislative position they vote for in our name.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying
👀 MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
“Mindfulness” Advisor Hired for Elementary School
📅 August 27, 2026
Under the consent agenda (Item I.5), the district is hiring a “Mindful Movement Advisor” for Muraski Elementary. These programs often serve as a Trojan horse for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and new-age concepts, taking focus and time away from core academics like reading and math.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email Superintendent Cameron Ryba at cryba@scsmustangs.org: ‘Regarding Item I.5, please provide the full curriculum for the “Mindful Movement” program. Parents have a right to know what is being taught to their children under the guise of mindfulness.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Displacing Academics
✅ Wins to Defend
Good moves worth showing up to support so they stick.
Win (LEVEL 6)
District Adopts “Science of Reading” for Teacher Training
📅 August 27, 2026
The new agreement with Cleveland State University for student teachers (Item G.3) explicitly requires that mentors for reading instruction be trained in and use materials aligned with the “Science of Reading.” This is a significant win for academic rigor and a rejection of failed “whole language” methods that have harmed students.
How to Lock It In

AMPLIFY THIS WIN: Show up to thank the Board for approving the MOU in Item G.3. Get it on the record that parents support the ‘Science of Reading’ and expect the district to expand this focus on proven, evidence-based instruction for all students.
