Heads up, taxpayers and parents: We’ve audited the upcoming WEST ISD agenda. There are 2 items targeting parental consent and taxpayer funds that need your immediate attention before the gavel falls.
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 8)
Tax Rate Vote Lacks Key Comparison
📅 August 26, 2026
The Board is holding a public hearing and voting to adopt a property tax rate of $0.79965. However, the agenda fails to provide the ‘no-new-revenue’ rate, which is the rate that would raise the same amount of money as the previous year. Without this comparison, taxpayers are left in the dark about whether this new rate actually increases their total tax bill due to rising property values.
Response

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Attend the public hearing on August 26th. During public comment, ask the board: ‘What is the no-new-revenue tax rate, and how does the proposed rate of $0.79965 compare to it?’ This forces them to state clearly whether they are raising your taxes.

💰 Impact: Potential tax increase above the no-new-revenue rate.
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 7)
Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying Group on the Agenda
📅 August 26, 2026
The agenda lists required board training conducted by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). TASB is a taxpayer-funded lobbying organization that frequently opposes property tax relief, school choice, and other conservative reforms in the Texas Legislature. This training highlights the district’s use of local tax dollars to support a political group that may lobby against the financial interests of West ISD taxpayers.
Response

ASK THE COST: Email the West ISD Board of Trustees. ‘How much in local tax money did West ISD pay to TASB in dues and fees this past year? Taxpayers deserve to know how much of their money is funding political lobbying in Austin.’ Taxpayers can find board contact information on the district’s official website.

💰 Impact: Undisclosed annual dues and fees paid to TASB.
