Suicide Prevention Posters Reviewed Behind Closed Doors
πŸ“… September 18, 2026
The board is reviewing updates to suicide prevention posters for elementary and secondary students in a closed-door Executive Session. While student safety is a priority, developing public-facing materials in secret prevents parents from reviewing the content before it’s finalized. These types of materials can introduce sensitive topics or direct students to third-party services that may operate without parental notification or consent.
Response

DEMAND THE DETAILS: Contact the Avery ISD board and ask: ‘Regarding Item 5.C, why are public-facing posters being reviewed in a secret session? Parents have a right to see these materials and provide input before they are displayed to our children. Please move this discussion to the public agenda and make the draft posters available for review.’

πŸ’° Impact: Lack of transparency on sensitive student materials.
