Final Vote on Budget and Property Tax Rate
📅 Vote Scheduled August 25, 2026
The board is scheduled to give final approval to the 2026-2027 budget and set the property tax rate for the coming year. This is the most important vote of the year for homeowners’ wallets. Taxpayers should pay close attention to the presentation (Item 3.A) to see if the proposed rate is above the ‘no-new-revenue’ rate, which constitutes a tax increase on existing properties.
Response
SHOW UP AND SPEAK UP: This is the final vote on your property tax bill. Attend the meeting to hear the presentation on Item 3.A and sign up for public comment on Item 4.E. Ask the board directly: ‘Are you adopting a tax rate higher than the no-new-revenue rate? If so, I demand you hold the line on spending and adopt the no-new-revenue rate.’ Contact the Vidor ISD Board of Trustees through the district’s official website.

Paying Austin Lobbyists with Local Tax Dollars
📅 Vote Scheduled August 25, 2026
The board is voting to renew its ‘Unemployment Compensation Coverage’ with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). While this sounds like a routine insurance product, TASB is one of the most powerful lobbying organizations in Austin, often working against property tax relief, parental rights, and school choice. These payments are dues in disguise, using local tax dollars to fund a political agenda at the state level.
Response
DEMAND A RECORDED VOTE: Contact the Vidor ISD Board of Trustees. ‘Item 4.B uses our local tax dollars to fund TASB’s political lobbying in Austin. I demand this item be discussed openly and a roll-call vote be taken. Please seek this coverage from a non-political vendor.’ Find board contact information on the district’s official website.

New Grant with Potential Strings Attached
📅 Presentation on August 25, 2026
The board will hear a presentation on ‘Potential TEA Day Placement Grant Plans.’ While grants can bring in money, they often come with strings attached that can lead to new hiring, specific curriculum mandates, or data collection requirements that local taxpayers are forced to fund long after the grant money runs out. This is the first look at a potential ‘fiscal cliff.’
Response
DEMAND THE DETAILS: Contact the Vidor ISD Board of Trustees. ‘Regarding the grant plans in Item 3.C, what are the long-term hiring and program obligations? Will local taxpayers be on the hook to continue this program after the grant money is gone? Please make all grant application documents public before any vote is taken.’ Find board contact information on the district’s official website.
